Virtus Pro general manager Roman Dvoryankin commented on the defeat of the team at The International 2019 Dota 2 championship. On his personal page on VK, he listed the team’s previous successes and noted that the team would not “make loud statements” until it decided on the future.
“The core of our current Dota roster has been playing together for a little over three years. Now it’s obvious that we have reached our limit. It is unfortunate that at this tournament we were unable to not only take the next step, we showed a frankly weak result.
I remember well The 2016 International, the first tournament that I followed as the General Manager of VP. I really remember Vilat’s famous monologue about why Dota is not our game. Thinking of these words, I am proud of the path we have traveled over these three years. 5 victories in majors, 7 smaller caliber titles, an incredible amount of positive emotions that we gave to our fans around the world. Thanks to the success of our players and the coordinated work of the organization’s employees, we were able to make Virtus Pro one of the most famous and recognizable e-sports brands in the world and the undisputed leader in Russia. <…>
Unlike last year, we will have enough time before the start of the new season, and we all use this time in order to decide on the future. We will not make emotional and hasty decisions, make loud statements until the moment we can say something specific. Be patient. Thank you all very much for your support. #GOGOVP ".
Virtus Pro lost to Royal Never Give Up with a score of 0: 2 in the second round of the lower bracket and left The International 2019. The team took 9-12th place and earned about $700 thousand.
The International 2019 takes place from August 15 to 25 in Shanghai. The tournament current prize pool is $33.5 million.
