5 ways to raise MMR. Emotional side and attitude

April 26, 2019

Are you on a losing streak again, or are you simply tired of not making any progress? Today we’re going to bring to your attention 5 ways to change the situation for the better.

1) Don’t get discouraged over games that are already lost

Some games are impossible to win. Others can be won even if you’re underperforming. Every single one of us has tasted both. The inability to do anything is absolutely maddening, and when your enemies keep winning while still making misplays, your heart sinks.

Matches of the kind are rare occasions that leave pro players uninterested. Don’t let players of the sort influence your morale. And don’t waste your time to analyze such unsuccessful games either. You’ll need it for more important things.

You’ll have to pay attention to games that could’ve panned out in two different ways. Most matches go this way, and the sooner you learn to win them consistently, you’ll be able to make progress.

2) Analyze your actions

This is what you have to start off with. Even the strongest players admit to making mistakes. They see that their performance hasn’t been ideal. And this is why they move forward. You’ll have to do the same if you want to make progress.
The best ways to analyse your actions is to look over your replays. Yes, it takes quite a bit of time, and it also requires being focused, ut it’s definitely worth it. It will enable you to:

  1. Take an objective look at your actions and assess them rationally without overreacting
  2. Compare your actions with those of your opponent
  3. Take a look at what your teammates are doing and find the real source of the problem

You can analyze your action while watching the replay and when directly playing the game. Memorize the in-game moments when you think that something goes wrong or when you know you could’ve played better. It’s good if you’ll be able to understand where you’ve made a mistake. If not, then don’t be lazy when it comes to watching the replay and analyze what’s happened in the game in-depth. This will help you avoid making mistakes, and it may also help you understand that your personal performance wasn’t the reason behind this or that failure.

3) Take the initiative

In order to grow as a Dota player faster, be active. Sometimes it’s really nice to secure an effortless win while staying behind the backs of your teammates. But if someone carries you to victory, it won’t affect your in-game growth anyhow. In the long run, it’ll be much better for you to put forth an inefficient plan of action and learn from it rather than not do anything at all. Failures are always memorable and they teach you a lot.

Here we’re not even talking about using the voice chat in order to cooperate with your team. Only captains of the highest rank can use this in-game means of communication effectively and consistently. And if you want to be like them, you’ll still have to start from small beginnings.

Make your own decisions and cooperate with teammates. Sometimes pinging the map won’t simply be enough. Sending a short message to your team won’t do it either. Remember that you need to be active in order to defeat your foes. Any AFK player can be lucky enough to win the game, but it’s YOU who’ll take pains to win matches and be able to make progress.

You can be active in the game regardless of the role you’ve chosen. Take part in the life of your team and bring forth suggestions as to what they can do on the lane and throughout the match. The more you influence the course of the game, the more beneficial it will be for you. You’ll be able to see where you were wrong, or you’ll know that you were right all alone. And surely your +25 rating will be very well deserved.

4) Be sure to get ready for the game

Naturally, your matches are not the ones that are held at the International. You’re not taking part in qualifier games, and these are not even LAN games hosted in your city during some tournament. This is all pretty clear, and some of your teammates will be far from demonstrating sportsmanlike conduct. Still, you’ll have to win somehow.

In this regard, you attitude to the game will be key to success. The main objective is to make the most of your match. You’ll have to deliver so that you won’t end being ashamed of your game later. Different situations may take place. You may be playing after a rough day, or you may be having the last match before you go to bed. In any case, you’ll have to take pains in order to win. The degree of the efforts you take may vary, but you won’t simply get away with winning a match completely effortlessly. If you don’t feel like playing your best, it’s better not to play at all. But if you do decide to find a match, be ready for defeat. In order to get better, play the game when you’re truly ready for it. You can still have fun in the process, of course, at the end of the day it’s just a game.

5) Be ready to get over defeats

No one is safe from defeats, even the most disappointing ones, when you couldn’t possibly imagine losing the game, or when everything was against you. In moments of the kind one usually wants to forget everything right away, and this is a natural reaction. But sometimes it does more harm than good.
For instance, the want to forget the negative experience makes people keep playing and get back on track. And being in a state like this it’s really hard to perform well. You’ll be defeated over and over again, and you’ll be on a lose streak. You’ll promise yourself that you’ll never play Dota again. We’ve all been through it and we all know how it feels.

Pay close attention to your mood after losing games. If you feel a rush of energy after being defeated, it may be a very bad sign. You won’t be energetic for long, and even a slightest mistake will derail you.

It’s important to understand that the feeling of discouragement doesn’t go away easily. You have to wait it out. And only after it’s gone you can start anew. After losing two or three games, make sure to take a brief break to catch your breath and change the activity for half an hour.
